The leader of the Nyatura / FDDH armed group, Kasongo Kalamo was killed in fighting between his militiamen on Wednesday against the combatants of the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR / CNRD) in Bukama, about 15 km from the city. from Kitshanga in Masisi (North Kivu). Local sources report that the self-proclaimed general and Nyatura militia commander - accompanied by some of his men - was ambushed by FDLR / CNRD combatants around 7:30 pm local time. He succumbed to his injuries after fighting with his attackers. According to concordant sources, his body was taken by his elements to Mbuyi, his headquarters. This news triggered a strong tension in Masisi on Thursday and caused the displacement of thousands of inhabitants of the villages of Bukama, Mbuyi, Kashanje, Rugarama as well as villages surrounding the hills of Mweso towards Mweso-center. The displaced say they fear a possible Nyatura attack in retaliation for the killing of their leader and possible clashes between the two armed groups in the area. The Nyatura and the FDLR / CNRD clash regularly in some localities of Masisi to have control of certain mining sites.
