Three people were killed and four others were wounded in an attack launched on Monday night by the coalition of the Nyatura and FDLR armed groups against an army post in Kitshanga, 83 km northwest of Goma, in North Kivu. Among the victims of this attack are two army officers (a captain and a lieutenant) and the wife of a soldier, according to local sources. Four others, one soldier and three civilians were also injured during the assault, a place for the police. According to several sources, the attack occurred at two in the morning. Exchanges between the militia and the military lasted more than an hour, before the army made a "strategic withdrawal". A retreat that allowed the assailants to release 12 of their companions who were detained by the military and to steal protected ammunition from the military logistics depot in Kitshanga. The attackers also carried 60 cows on a farm, police said. Since the morning, activities are paralyzed in this region. Several residents feared the violence at the shelter found around the base of MONUSCO peacekeepers in Kitshanga.
